While he didn't hear Foggy approach, he does catch that -- or maybe it's the sound of Foggy's returning footsteps he hears. Either way, he makes another sound, this one firmer, albeit not by much, and to the negative. He immediately regrets it, what with his chest and stomach still on fire, even if the sensation is growing slowly distant, and another, smaller noise follows, this one pained.

If Foggy does, in fact, go for the mask, he's not sure he'll have the strength to stop him.
